Albert Luthuli was a South African anti-apartheid activist who served as President of the African National Congress from 1952 to 1967. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1960 for his nonviolent resistance to apartheid.

Luthuli was born in 1898 in Groutville, Natal, South Africa. He was the son of a Christian minister and a schoolteacher. Luthuli attended school in Groutville and then at Adams College in Amanzimtoti. After graduating from Adams College, Luthuli worked as a teacher and a journalist.

In 1936, Luthuli joined the African National Congress. He quickly rose through the ranks of the ANC, and in 1952 he was elected President of the organization. Under Luthuli's leadership, the ANC became a more militant organization, and it began to advocate for armed resistance against apartheid.

In 1960, Luthuli was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent resistance to apartheid. The award brought Luthuli international recognition, and it helped to put the issue of apartheid on the world stage.

Luthuli continued to lead the ANC until 1967, when he was banned by the South African government. Luthuli died in 1967 at the age of 69.

Albert Luthuli was a courageous and dedicated leader who fought for the rights of all South Africans. His legacy continues to inspire people around the world who are fighting for freedom and justice.
