Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut and the first person to walk on the Moon. He was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on August 5, 1930, and died in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 25, 2012.

Armstrong was a naval aviator and test pilot before joining NASA in 1962. He was selected for the Apollo 11 mission, which landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969. Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, and they spent two and a half hours outside the lunar module, collecting samples and taking photographs.
