About the Author
Alan Whicker was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1921. He began his career as a journalist in the 1940s, and he went on to become one of the most respected and celebrated journalists of his generation. He reported on some of the most important events of the 20th century, including World War II, the Vietnam War, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. He also traveled to over 100 countries, and his work has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Whicker died in 2013 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife, Valerie, and his two children, Alexandra and James.
