In May 2001, a group of 26 Mexican immigrants set out on a journey to cross the Arizona desert. They were led by a coyote, or human smuggler, named Jesus Manuel Lopez. The journey quickly turned deadly. The immigrants ran out of water and food, and they began to die. By the time they were rescued, 14 of them had died.
